Javier Map (ES)
“Una Duda en el Otro Extremo”
Wadström Tönnheim Gallery, Marbella
1 of May – 5 of June, 2021
WTG proudly presents the exhibition ”Una Duda en el Otro Extremo” (“A Doubt At The Other End”). Under this title Javier Map presents a selection of pieces of his most recent production. The exhibition opens at 18.00 pm on Saturday the 1 of May and goes on until the 5 of June.
The project, which includes sculptures, installations and paintings, is presented as an iconography of collapse, proposing a reflection on the decay and failure of the human being; and the hope of salvation placed on the idea of utopia.
– The works in this collection refer back to a series of symbols – such as airplane fragments, or rescue and climbing equipment – setting up a scene that is reminiscent of a plane crash, says Javier Map.
Under a post-apocalyptic aesthetic of falsely found objects, the works that make up the exhibition do not hide a certain degree of secrecy, placing oneself in the field of the undefined or perhaps seeking perplexity of what is out of context.
– We are happy and proud to present this most fascinating exhibition ”Una Duda en el Otro Extremo” (“A Doubt At The Other End”) by the emerging Spanish artist Javier Map. This exhibition is also an example of our ongoing parallel collaboration with regional Andalusian artists. Something we at Wadström Tönnheim Gallery thinks is important even though we mostly show artists from abroad considering we are an international gallery, says Mattias Tönnheim, founder of and director at Wadström Tönnheim Gallery.
Javier Map was born 1981 in Murcia and now lives in Huelva. Javier studied Fine Arts at the University of Granada and also has a post graduate diploma from Central St. Martins School of Art & Design in London. More information about Javier Map: https://www.instagram.com/javier_map/
